Graduate Bel\u00e9n Funes<\/strong> has won the Goya Award for Best New Director<\/strong> for La hija de un ladr\u00f3n<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0at the 34th edition of the Goya Awards<\/strong> given by the Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematogr\u00e1ficas de Espa\u00f1a<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

La hija de un ladr\u00f3n<\/strong><\/em> is co-written with Mar\u00e7al Cebri\u00e1n<\/strong>, with Neus Oll\u00e9<\/strong> as DoP, Enrique G. Bermejo<\/strong> as sound designer and other graduates in all departments. Bel\u00e9n Funes had already worked with these same graduates in her two previous short films: Sara a la fuga<\/strong><\/em> and La in\u00fatil<\/strong><\/em> (produced by ESCAC).<\/p>\n

The film was also nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role<\/strong> for Greta Fern\u00e1ndez<\/strong>, who already won the Concha de Plata<\/strong> at the Festival de San Sebasti\u00e1n<\/strong> for this role.<\/p>\n

This Goya Award is in addition to the three Gaud\u00ed Awards<\/strong><\/a> that the film won last week; Best Screenplay, Best Direction and Best Film in a non-Catalan language<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Bel\u00e9n Funes’ is the fourth Goya Award for Best New Director<\/strong> for a graduate of the school after those won by J.A. Bayona<\/strong> in 2008 for El orfanato<\/em>, Mar Coll<\/strong> in 2010 for Tres dies amb la fam\u00edlia<\/strong><\/em> and Kike Ma\u00edllo<\/strong> in 2012 for Eva<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

To date, ESCAC graduates have received more than 40 nominations and 22 Goya Awards.<\/p>\n

Suc de S\u00edndria<\/strong><\/em>, by Irene Moray, won the Goya for Best Fiction Short Film. The short film was edited by graduate Ana Pfaff<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Lo que arde<\/strong><\/em>, by Oliver Laxe, won the Goya for Best Cinematography for former school teacher Mauro Herce<\/strong> and the award for Best New Actress.<\/p>\n

Qui\u00e9n a hierro mata<\/strong><\/em>, directed by Paco Plaza, won the Goya for Best New Actor for Enric Auquer<\/strong>. The film counts with graduates David Gallart<\/strong> in editing<\/strong> and Oriol Maym\u00f3<\/strong> in production<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Intemperie<\/strong><\/em>, the film directed by Benito Zambrano and featuring cinematography<\/strong> by graduate Pau Esteve Birba<\/strong>, won two awards, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Song.<\/p>\n

La inocencia<\/strong><\/em>, the opera Prima of graduate Luc\u00eda Alemany<\/strong> (co-written with Laia Soler<\/strong> and Joan Bordera<\/strong> as DoP), had two nominations; Best Original Song and Best New Actress for Carmen Arrufat<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Perdiendo el este<\/strong><\/em>, directed by Master in Directing<\/strong> alumnus Paco Caballero<\/strong>, was nominated for Best Special Effects. The film features graduates Oriol Capel<\/strong> as screenwriter<\/strong> and David Valldep\u00e9rez<\/strong> as director of photography<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Adi\u00f3s<\/strong> <\/em>by Paco Cabezas, with 3 nominations, features graduates Pau Esteve Birba<\/strong> as DoP<\/strong> and Luis de la Madrid<\/strong> in Editing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Paradise Hills<\/strong> <\/em>by Alice Waddington was nominated for Best Costume Design. The film features graduate Alex Villagrasa<\/strong> on Effects<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
