Introduction

The Postgraduate Program in Directing is designed to provide the fundamental knowledge and techniques required to direct fiction audiovisual works, while also expanding students’ experience in the field of film production.

Students will also gain a comprehensive understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the other members of a basic audiovisual production team—assistant director, director of photography, art director, editor, and sound technician—through continuous practical work in audiovisual storytelling exercises.

Objectives and competencies

By the end of the course, students should be able to:

  • Understand and use the mechanisms of audiovisual language to tell stories.

  • Understand and master the field of audiovisual production and shooting.

  • Carry out all the tasks of a director in the creation of an audiovisual work: planning, executing, and supervising the different stages of production.

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of the other members of the production team.

  • Work effectively as part of a team in the creation of an audiovisual project, collaborating with others while leading a shared project.

  • Demonstrate maturity and analytical rigor in evaluating the work carried out, both individually and as part of the team.

Minimum duration and credits: One semester, 30 credits

Who it is for

  • University graduates in Audiovisual Communication, Fine Arts, or other university-level degrees related to the audiovisual field without experience in professional film production.

  • Students from film schools or artistic disciplines.

  • Students with a Higher Vocational Training qualification in Audiovisual Project and Show Production (or equivalent).

  • Professionals with proven experience in the audiovisual sector who wish to make a switch or update their discipline.

  • Professionals from the film or video industry who want to deepen their knowledge of the creation and distribution of audiovisual products.
