Joan Fontcuberta (Barcelona, 1955) is one of the most internationally renowned Catalan photographers and has developed a plural activity in the world of photography as a creator, teacher, critic, exhibition curator and historian. He is the author of a dozen books on the history and essays on photography and has collaborated with universities in Spain, France, Great Britain and the United States.
His work can be found in outstanding collections such as the MoMA in New York, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, The Art Institute of Chicago, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the FNAC in Paris and the MACBA in Barcelona, among others.
Among the many awards he has received, the prestigious Hasselblad International Photography Award in 2013, the National Photography Award of the Ministry of Culture (1998) or the National Culture Award of the CoNCA in the category of visual arts (2011) stand out.
