Photography Summer Course (In English)

Learn as a team and work on the cinematography of a music video and a short film!

The intensive course in Cinematographic Photography and Audiovisual Narrative offers a practical introduction to the narrative foundations of cinematography, with the aim of providing students with a basic technical preparation for the creation of audiovisual projects.

Who is it for?

It is especially aimed at university students aged 18 and over, from any field of study, who wish to explore and complement their interest in film directing from a practical perspective.

Objectives

  • Introduce students to the basic principles of cinematographic photography
  • Understand cinema as teamwork, where each role plays a fundamental part in the final result
  • Explore narrative concepts in cinema through photography and different visual and stylistic approaches
  • Enable students to gain control over moving images, lighting, narrative, and various techniques
  • Provide shooting and post-production tools to develop different creative approaches within the field of cinematography

Course Structure

The course is divided into three main blocks:

Practical Introduction to Cinematography (Director of Photography)

  • Cinematography and narrative
  • Lighting and cinematic look
  • Photographic techniques: camera and film storytelling
  • Tone and color design

Practical Exercises
These exercises will be supervised. Their development will begin during workshop sessions and will be completed individually as assignments. They will also be screened and discussed in class from both a technical and creative perspective on the day of submission.

Projects

Collective production of two complete audiovisual projects in short format based on the audiovisual development of pre-existing content, with the aim of applying the narrative techniques learned during the course.

Registration is open until all places are filled and can be completed through the ESCAC website.

FAQs

  • Where to eat?
    • ESCAC – Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya
    • On the ESCAC campus, students have access to a designated area for meals. ESCAC offers a bar-cafeteria service where sandwiches and other food can be purchased, as well as a catering service that can be arranged during registration. For students who prefer to bring their own meals, microwaves are available on campus.
  • Where to stay?
  • Equipment
    • No audiovisual equipment is required to take part in the course. All necessary materials will be provided by Cinebase – ESCAC.
    • For safety reasons, participants must wear closed-toe shoes to move around the different spaces used during the Summer School. Comfortable clothing is also recommended.
  • About ESCAC
    • All courses take place at the ESCAC facilities (Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya):
      Plaça de la Farinera, 9, 08222 Terrassa.
    • The school is open from 9:00 to 20:00.
