ESCAC Honored at the 53rd Student Academy Awards with The Dragon Letter

The short film The Dragon Letter, directed by ESCAC student Stanzin Jigmet, has been named one of the winners of the 53rd Student Academy Awards®, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The film was selected from 2,972 entries submitted by 894 colleges and universities around the world, once again placing ESCAC among the institutions recognized on the international film scene.

On September 14, during the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), it will be announced whether The Dragon Letter receives the Gold, Silver or Bronze award. All Student Academy Award-winning films also become eligible for consideration at the Academy Awards®.

This recognition adds to an especially strong recent track record for the school. Over the past three years, three ESCAC alumni have received Oscar nominations: J.A. Bayona for Society of the Snow, and Oriol Maymó and Laia Casanovas for Sirât.

ESCAC has also been named one of the world’s Top 15 film schools by The Hollywood Reporter.

This latest achievement further strengthens ESCAC’s international presence and highlights the growing visibility of talent emerging from the school on some of the film industry’s most prominent stages. On September 14, Toronto will reveal which award The Dragon Letter will take home.
