In the next edition of the International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, Escac Films will present the final short films: Gusanos de seda and El gran Corel·li. Gusanos de seda, directed by graduate Carlos Villafaina, will be presented in the New Authorship section. The short film has previously participated in the Semnici, Semana del cine de Medina del campo and in the International Student Film festival.
In the Anímate section, the animated short film El gran Corel·li, directed by Abel Carvajal after studying visual effects and animation, will be presented. The project took almost two years to produce, from the screenplay stage to the recording of the soundtrack.
In addition, the Sitges Festival will be hosting the most innovative proposals to come out of the ESCAC’s VFX LAB, the ESCAC XR Experience. A conference will explain the experience of the production of the piece ‘Sound of rain’ made by ESCAC students, which was presented at the last edition of Sónar + D. The talk will also analyse the narrative formulas emerging from new technologies, and will discuss how to tackle an independent production in VR format.
The presentation of The ESCAC Experience is scheduled for Friday 11 October at 10.30h, at Levante 3,4 of the Industry Hub-Talks Space of the Hotel Melià. While the screenings of ‘Sound of rain’ are scheduled on the 10th, 11th and 12th at the Miramar Cultural Centre, from 10am to 2pm and from 3pm to 8pm.
For his part, on 12 October, film editing professor Joan Marimon will present his book ‘Muertes creativas en el cine‘, published by Edicions de la Universitat de Barcelona with the collaboration of ESCAC. The book, which theorises on the function of death in cinematographic narration, will be presented at the Grup de estudis sitgetans.
And to celebrate its 25th anniversary, the ESCAC has organised a surprise activity at the exit of the Auditorium of the Hotel Melià where everyone will be able to take away a souvenir of their time at the festival.
