Lois Patiño, one of the leading representatives of the Novo Cinema Galego, shared with ESCAC students his creative process and his tireless search for new cinematographic languages and concepts.
His cinema, between documentary, experimental, video installations and the filmed diary, is truly stimulating and suggestive. It is a cinema that starts from the arts and in a permanent search for sensorial experiences. His landscapes, almost always in a large general shot, approach the sublime through distancing with a sensitivity towards the filmic picture that brings him closer to the pictorial picture. It is no coincidence that he comes from a family of painters. His cinema is also marked by the importance of the sound shot, much closer, suddenly transforming an image of profound abstraction into an enclave of a markedly humanist character.
Lois Patiño, a true explorer of cinema and one of the leading representatives of the Novo Cinema Galego, won the Best Director Award «Cineastas del Presente» at the Locarno Festival in 2013 with his first feature film, Costa da morte.
We leave you with a summary of his masterclass.
