On 16 February, we held the graduation ceremony for the 20th ESCAC graduating class at the Paraninfo of the University of Barcelona. In this ceremony 89 students graduated from nine different specialities: directing, cinematography, editing, production, sound production, screenwriting, art, VFX and documentary.
With the presence of the film producer Belén Atienza (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Marrowbone, Un monstruo viene a verme, Lo imposible and El Orfanato) as the patron of the promotion, the importance of the support of production companies for the incorporation of young people into the industry was highlighted.
In her speech, Belén Atienza highlighted the level of excellence with which ESCAC trains its students,«with a quite exceptional combination of talent and craft».
Belén Atienza has been working with ESCAC graduates for more than 15 years, promoting the careers of filmmakers such as J.A. Bayona, Òscar Faura, Bernat Vilaplana, and Lluís Quílez. In all this time «I have been able to observe the respect and humility with which they approach their work, as well as their courage, ambition and desire to excel».
Finally, the producer mentioned the special sensitivity of all the technicians who graduated from the school, a seal that is already present in the work of the graduates that was shown at the graduation ceremony. The producer encouraged the graduates to continue improving their craft day by day in order to tell better stories.
