Edu Grau awarded at the Spirit Awards

Yesterday, the Spirit Awards 2022 gala was held, the independent film awards from the United States created in 1984. The winners are chosen by voting among the members of the “Film Independent” organization and the nominees and winners of previous editions.

One of the winners of the night was Passing (Chiaroscuro), debut film by actress Rebecca Hall (Iron Man 3, A Rainy Day in New York), which won the Best Supporting Actress Award for Ruth Negga and the Best Director of Photography Award for the graduate Edu Grau (Buried, A Single Man, Sufragists, Who will sing to you, The Way Back).

The black-and-white photography is one of the most acclaimed elements of the film, a racial drama set in 1920s New York.

Synopsis: United States, 1920s. Clare is a mulatto woman who pretends to be white, she’s married to a white racist and she benefits from the social and economic status that was denied to blacks at the time.
