ESCAC (Escola de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya) is an open call for applications for the new edition of the Laboratori Opera Prima, its audiovisual project development programme.
The Opera Prima Laboratory, in operation since 2006, is responsible for the first and award-winning largometrajes of Mar Coll, Kike Maíllo, Elena Trapé or Marta Díaz de Lope Díaz and its last great success is the feature film Te estoyando locamente, that has obtained a Feroz Prize, 5 nominations for the Goya Prizes -including Best New Direction for Alejandro Marín-, and 3 in the Gaudí Awards.
Este año, Opera Prima amplía su convocatoria y seleccionará hasta 9 proyectos, que tendrán una dotación económica que puede llegar hasta 15.000 euros cada uno. De cada proyecto promoverá su desarrollo hasta la consecución de una propuesta sólida, pensada para un mercado global en el que tienen cabida diferentes formatos, diferentes públicos y diferentes contenidos.
This year, Opera Prima expands its call and will select up to 9 projects, that they will have an economic endowment that can be bequeathed to 15,000 euros each. Each project will promote its development until the achievement of a solid proposal, designed for a global market in which different formats, different audiences and different contenidos fit.
For him, training workshops, professional tutorials and specialized seminars are included. One of the most relevant aspects of the laboratory is the ability to produce an audiovisual pieza, be it a trailer, teaser or scene of the project. n addition, the selected projects carry out various presentations in the industry, in festivals such as Sitges and in personalized interviews in the ESCAC headquarters.
The 2024 call of the Laboratori Opera Prima will be open until 15 March and will be addressed to both alumni of the school and to the custodian external person who is not part of ESCAC community.
The participants will provide a professional in the industry who adapts to both the needs and the style of their projects to tutor them in the largo of the program. In previous editions, professionals such as Mercedes Gamero, Pablo Nogueroles, Sandra Tapia, Xavi Toll and Orlando Arriagada have been tutored; screenwriters Michel Gaztambide, Marta Buchaca, Tomàs Aragay, Laia Soler and Ana Sanz Magallón, and directors Belén Funes, Mar Coll, Carlos Alonso and Marta Díaz de Lope Díaz.
The selected ones participate in three face-to-face meetings in which they have the opportunity to present their project to the industry. We have had the previous participation of companies such as TVE, Atresmedia, TV3, Mediaset, ETB, Movistar, Amazon Studios, Netflix, Filmin, Universal, Warner Bros., Alfa Pictures, Caramel, DeAPlaneta, Filmax, A Contracorriente, Wild Bunch, Film Factory, Festival de San Sebasti’n, Festival de Sitges, D’A, Semios or Berlin entre.
