Dominga Sotomayor returns to success with ‘Tarde para morir joven’.

After winning the Golden Leopard at Locarno, Sotomayor wins Best Director at Gijón.

Chilean Dominga Sotomayor, a student of ESCAC’s Master’s Degree in Directing, has won the award for Best Direction and Best Cinematography for Tarde para morir joven at the Gijón Film Festival.

Dominga Sotomayor had already won the Golden Leopard for Best Director for the same film at the last Locarno Film Festival, the first woman to win this award.

This is Sotomayor’s third film after De jueves a domingo (2012) and Mar (2014), and is set in 1990s Chile, during the democratic transition.

Synopsis:

As they prepare for the New Year’s party, young Sofia and Lucas, 16, and Clara, only ten, face their first loves and fears, in the midst of a community far from the city.
