Overview

The Postgraduate Programme in Film Directing is designed to provide the fundamental knowledge and techniques for directing fiction audiovisual works, and to expand students’ experience in the field of film sets.

Students will also gain a global understanding of the tasks carried out by the rest of the members of a basic audiovisual production crew – assistant director, director of photography, art director, editor and sound recordist – through continuous practice in audiovisual storytelling exercises.

Objectives and Competencies

Upon successful completion of the programme, students will be able to:

  • Understand and apply the mechanisms of audiovisual language to tell stories.
  • Understand and master the field of film production and shooting.
  • Carry out all the tasks of a director in the creation of an audiovisual work: planning, execution, and supervision of the different production processes.
  • Understand the tasks of the rest of the members of the film crew.
  • Be able to work as part of a team in the creation of an audiovisual work, collaborating with others and leading a shared project.
  • Demonstrate maturity and analytical rigor in the self-assessment of the work carried out, both individually and within the team.

Applicant Profile

University graduates in Audiovisual Communication, Fine Arts, or other university-level degrees related to the audiovisual field without professional on-set experience.

Students from film schools or artistic disciplines.

Students holding a Higher Vocational Training qualification in Audiovisual Project Production and Stagecraft or equivalent.

Professionals with proven experience in the audiovisual sector who wish to make a switch or update in their discipline.

Professionals from the film or video industry who want to deepen their knowledge of the creation and exploitation of audiovisual products.
